In brisk temperatures under a brilliant autumn sun, I rode a small section of what will one day be a 117-mile multi-use trail across eastern Kansas, and I found the trail offered outstanding scenery as it passed through woods and meadows along the Marais des Cygnes river.

I headed south to Hillsdale Lake on Sunday, riding in brilliant sunshine and bucking a stiff wind. It was slow going, and that was just fine by me. It was a day to be savored, as I stopped to explore the tallgrass prairies around the lake.

On the Autumnal Equilux, a friend and I did an unsupported century through East-Central Kansas, and it turned out to be a glorious day, with moderate temperatures, mild wind, generally sparse traffic, and a great rural route through five counties and nine small towns.
