I’ve seen a few people asking about the availability of recumbents in the Kansas City area, so I thought I’d put up a list. There are no dedicated recumbent dealers, but there are several shops that offer a few recumbents:

  • Bicycle Shack, Kansas City, MO (816-761-3233) – Sells RANS, Sun, and EasyTour, though there’s usually only one recumbent in stock at any one time. This is where I purchased my EZ-Sport.

  • Bike America, Lee’s Summit, MO (816-524-1819), Olathe, KS (913-780-4500), Overland Park, KS (913-381-5431) – RANS, Sun – The shops in Olathe and Overland Park usually have a few recumbents in stock; I haven’t visited the one in Lee’s Summit.

  • Bike Stop, Blue Springs, MO (816-224-8588) and Kansas City, MO (816-353-8448) – Bacchetta, RANS, Sun, WizWheelz – They had a good quantity and variety of bents in stock when last I checked.

  • Biscari Bothers Bicycles, Kansas City, MO (816-231-1331) and Liberty, MO (816-792-8877) – Sun – I’ve never tried this place.

A little farther afield, there are some more recumbent dealers within a day’s drive or so of KC:

  • Recumbents of Oklahoma, Tulsa, OK (918-587-5927) – RANS

  • Springdale Bicycle, Springdale, AR (866-726-7245) – Bacchetta, RANS, Sun

  • St Louis Recumbent Bicycles, Maryville, IL (618-343-1885) – Bacchetta, Catrike, Cycle Genius, Hase, Longbikes, Performance Recumbents, RANS, Sun, WizWheelz

I’ve never visited any of these, so I can’t vouch for them. You’d be advised to call ahead to check what they have in stock. The two St. Louis area shops would appear to have the largest selection, and might be a good choice for test-riding a variety of bikes in a short period of time.
