Share The RoadThe images on the right are the “before” and “after” of a “Share The Road” sign in rural Johnson County, Kansas.

The one on the left was taken several months ago. In case you can’t quite make it out, that’s a hole in the center of the sign, left by a large-caliber bullet.

The one on the right is the new, pristine sign, which a road crew installed after a few months.

So why would someone do this? Either the sign was shot at random, in which case it means nothing, or someone purposely shot this particular sign. Since there were other nearby signs, and none of them were shot, you have to assume that this one was specifically targetted.

Was this intended to intimidate cyclists? From my point of view, it’s hard to look at it any other way, and it’s not a comforting thought…
