I recently took a ride to check out the progress on the nearby 199th street projects that have been interfering with my normal riding patterns this summer:
-
The bridge over Woodland Road is nowhere near completion. Two of the three supports have been completed, but the deck of the bridge has not been started yet. -
The connection between Woodland Road and the new 199th street appears to be nearly complete. The asphalt is poured (though it may need another layer) and it needs to be lined. -
The intersection at 199th and Ridgeview also appears to be just about ready. It may need another layer of pavement, then painting. I’m not sure whether this intersection will have two-way stop signs, four-way stop signs, or a traffic light. -
The intersection at 199th and Antioch may need some final painting and signage, but it is now open to traffic. I’m not sure how long it’s been open, but it hasn’t been long judging by the detour signs that have been taken down, but not yet removed.
I’m not sure of the status of 199th street between Ridgeview and Woodland. I assume that it’s also nearly ready for traffic. According to KSDOT, the road is scheduled to be opened on August 17th. I’m also not sure whether that new section, like the rest of 199th, will be shoulderless or not. That section does appear to have a concrete curb along each side of the road.
I’m hoping that since they took the time to reconstruct it, they also took the time to add a least a few feet of rideable shoulder. Since this road connects to the new Spring Hill High School, which is scheduled to open this fall, I imagine that they’d have made provisions for students riding their bikes to school. We’ll see.
