In preparation for my upcoming tour on the Katy Trail, I did my longest ride of the year so far. Starting from home, I headed north to DeSoto, crossed the bridge over the Kansas River, journeyed west past Linwood, then turned back south, crossing the river again at Eudora and continuing due south all the way to Edgerton, then heading back home through Gardner.
It was a very smooth and enjoyable ride. The with was out of the north-northwest, and fairly gusty, which made for a nice tailwind on the southward leg. Even though I was taking it fairly easy, I ended up with a decent average speed of 14.6 MPH over a total of about 62 miles. I was a bit tired at the end, but not overly so.
I’m not sure if I’ll do another long ride before my trip, or not. The longest day is 66 miles, and I should be ready for that now. With the trip starting in two weeks, I may still do another 50+ mile day.
