Picked up the bike today. I had originally ordered it with a wired cyclocomputer, but I ended up changing it to a wireless cyclocomputer, to eliminate any wiring issues with the EZ-Sport handlebars.
Taking it home, I found that the bike barely fits in the bed of my pickup. It fits in diagonally, but is unable to lay over completely. It’s secure enough, but if I’d want to transport more than one bike, I’d need to come up with another solution, probably putting the tailgate down and somehow standing the bikes up vertically and somehow securing them. I need to investigate that at some point.
Went for my first real ride tonight. This is the same quick 4-mile ride I’d been doing on my old ten-speed. The biggest difference: no hand pain! That’s certainly a positive sign. I think I still need to adjust the seat and/or handlebars. My legs feel about right, but I have to lean forward slightly to hold the handlebars. Either my arms are too short, my seat is too far back, the handlebar is too vertical, or the seatback is not vertical enough. I’ll have to play with that.
One problem came up — my shoelace got tangled up in the front sprocket for a short period of time. Luckily, I was able to get it loose before it got too tangled, and I didn’t crash. But after that, I tucked my shoelaces into my shoes. These are just old tennis shoes, and I think I’ll be investing in real cycling shoes at some point.
One cool thing happened — a car drove by me, window rolled halfway down and a young man’s head sticking out. “Hey, where’d you get that? Awesome bike!” The car was gone before I had a chance to answer, but that made me feel pretty good. I was afraid that I looked kind of dorky.
